When I do so I see the radio shows "SPLIT" on its screen and does use separate receive and transmit frequencies. Since the IC-7300 has two VFOs and supports split mode I chose the "Rig" setting in the WSJT-X settings. On reading the official WSJT-X User Guide (and various YouTube videos, etc.) I see that many places strongly recommend running FT8 in split mode.

It's so true.I am successfully running FT8 with WSJT-X on Windows 10 with my IC-7300. Since the IC-7300 has two VFOs and supports split mode I chose the 'Rig' setting in the WSJT-X. There is an old saying that, "You learn something every day". I am successfully running FT8 with WSJT-X on Windows 10 with my IC-7300. It works as advertised! Only the apps in use appear as inputs to the volume mixer for the output device iused, so there are no devices that need to be muted. I now have my laptop's built-in input and output devices set as the defaults and select the devices needed for each app that I use. Several years ago I received instructions advising to make the input and output devices used the defaults and never questioned it. The first four letters in the program name stand for Weak Signal communication by K1JT, while the suffix -X indicates that WSJT-X started as an extended branch of an earlier program, WSJT, first released in 2001. To all, please pardon my unnecessary intrusion. WSJT-X is a computer program designed to facilitate basic amateur radio communication using very weak signals. Reino, thanks for quoting Bill's email on the subject. The radio and its sound card MUST be connected and turned on before you start WSJT-X and choose the "USB Audio Codec" option. Then in EACH radio application, like WSJT-X and MMTTY and FLDIGI, etc., select the "USB Audio Codec" in both the INPUT and OUTPUT settings. All Windows bleeps, chrips and audio will go to the default audio device.

Another option if you only have a single sound card is to install some virtual audio device and make that the default device but never use it. The only robust solution is to always plug in audio devices before starting WSJT-X. Having said that there is a problem for users with only on pair of audio devices since there is no option to have no default audio devices so any plugged in USB or HDMI audio device will become the new default. In theory if the audio devices that WSJT-X is using are *not* set as the default devices, which they shouldn't be anyway, then this nasty behaviour should not cause a problem. It does this without the applications using those audio devices getting any indication of the audio re-routing. Windows has a nasty habit of switching audio to any new hot-plugged device, i.e. The default Windows Playback and Recording devices should be those needed by the current app in use. Set the default Windows audio device to the Windows internal audio system, what ever that is. Follow the same steps but set the baud rate to 19.2. Now connect your external sound card and setup a second instance of WSJT-X using the -rig-name=whatever (ie: -rig-name=IC706). Ensure that the default autio device is NOT the USB Codex from Icom. Since you unplugged the other sound card, it should be the only one available. I use these parameters:īaud=115200, Word=8, Stop Bit=1 Parity=None DRT & RDS both off Set the Audio in WSJT-X for the Audio Codex.

This presumes that you downloaded the USB Drivers from Icom. Now look at your device manager and see what com port has been assigned to the IC-7300 USB Port. Plug in the IC-7300 via the USB port on the radio to a USB port on the PC.

Unpug the external sound device from the PC (for your sanity for a while). If it is not, ignore the rest of this note. If that is the case, here's what you should do. It also sounds like you might be using that external card for both radios. So I'm deducing that you have an external sound card. The IC-706MKIIG does not, if I recall correctly, have a built in sound card.
